Base64 decoder
Paste Base64 and see what it holds below the editor as you type: JSON, XML or text inside is detected and formatted, and an image or another file is previewed and can be downloaded.
Decode, then format
What the Base64 holds shows below it, formatted. Use as text (or Decode) puts it in the editor in place of the Base64, ready to edit; Ctrl+Z brings the Base64 back. The badge on the editor says what is inside before you look.
Images and files
When the Base64 holds an image, a PDF or another file rather than text, it is shown below (images are previewed) and can be downloaded.
Every flavour
The standard alphabet (+ /) and the URL-safe one (- _) are both read, with or without = padding, with line breaks, or as a data: URL. Base64 holding gzip or zlib data (starting H4sI or eJ) is decompressed first.
Private: nothing is uploaded
Formatting, checking and comparing all happen in your browser. Your documents are saved in the browser's own storage on this computer, not on a server, so they never leave your device.
With your permission, we count anonymous visits (which pages and tools are used), never what you type. See Privacy.
Questions
How do I decode Base64 to JSON?
Paste the Base64: the JSON inside appears below it, formatted. Press Decode to make it the editor's text.
Why does it show bytes instead of text?
The Base64 holds data that is not text and not a known file type. The bytes are shown in hex, and Download saves them as a file.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
Your documents aren't: everything runs in your browser, and they are saved on your computer, in the browser's storage for this site. With your permission we count anonymous visits, never their content.
