Formatter and converter

Paste or open JSON, YAML, TOML, CSV, XML, SQL or Protocol Buffers text, and the language is detected for you. Format makes it readable, Minify makes it compact, Compare shows what changed between two versions, and Convert shows it in another format, encoded or hashed.

Format and minify

  • JSON: values kept exactly as written, and several values one after another (JSON Lines) supported. JSON with comments (tsconfig.json, .jsonc) and JSON5 keep their comments.
  • YAML: block layout with comments and multiple documents kept; minified to compact flow style that is still valid YAML.
  • TOML: checked against the spec, tidied with comments and values kept exactly as written.
  • CSV and TSV: checked, with rows and columns counted.
  • XML: one element per line, with text, comments and CDATA kept exactly as written; minified to one line.
  • SQL: 14 dialects, keywords in upper, lower or original case; minified to one line without touching strings or hints.
  • Proto Text: the Protocol Buffers text format, with comments kept when formatting.

Convert, decode, encode and hash

The Convert menu shows the text below the editor as JSON, YAML, TOML or CSV, encoded (Base64, gzip, URL, HTML entities, JSON string) or hashed (SHA-256, SHA-512, SHA-1, MD5, HMAC), live as you type. Encoded text shows what it holds there by itself: a JWT its header and payload, with its signature checked when you give the key.

Errors you can understand

The text is checked as you type. Problems are explained in plain words and underlined in the editor, and one click takes you to the line and column.

Compare two versions

Compare puts your text next to a second editor, with changed lines and words highlighted and long unchanged stretches folded.

Questions

Which languages are supported?

JSON (including JSON Lines, JSON with comments and JSON5), YAML, TOML, CSV and TSV, XML, SQL in 14 dialects and the Protocol Buffers text format, plus Base64, URL encoding, HTML entities, JSON strings and JWTs to decode and encode. The language is detected automatically, or you can choose it.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

Your documents aren't: everything runs in your browser, and they are saved on your computer, in the browser's storage for this site. With your permission we count anonymous visits, never their content.
