Compare JSON (JSON diff)

Paste two JSON documents, such as two API responses or two versions of a config file, to see exactly what changed: which keys were added or removed, and which values are different.

Ignore spacing and key order

Minified on one side and indented on the other? Press Format on both sides. Keys in a different order? Turn on Sort keys before formatting. Then only real differences in values remain.

Values compared as written

Numbers and strings are compared exactly as written: 1.0 and 1 count as different, and big integers keep every digit. Sort keys orders the keys of objects but never the items of arrays, so a reordered list shows as a change.

Find each change

Changed lines and words are highlighted, long unchanged stretches are folded, and the arrows jump from one change to the next. Both sides stay editable as the highlights follow, and Swap exchanges them.

Private: nothing is uploaded

Formatting, checking and comparing all happen in your browser. Your documents are saved in the browser's own storage on this computer, not on a server, so they never leave your device.

With your permission, we count anonymous visits (which pages and tools are used), never what you type. See Privacy.

Questions

How do I compare two JSON files?

Paste or open one on each side, or drop each file on its side, then Format both with Sort keys on to ignore differences in layout and key order.

Can I compare minified JSON with formatted JSON?

Yes. Format both sides first; the layout then matches and only the real differences are highlighted.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

Your documents aren't: everything runs in your browser, and they are saved on your computer, in the browser's storage for this site. With your permission we count anonymous visits, never their content.
