URL decoder and parser

Paste percent-encoded text, such as a whole address, a query string or one value, and see it decoded below as you type. An address is also broken into its parts, and JSON inside is formatted.

Every part of an address

A full address shows as a table: protocol, host, path, fragment, and each query parameter with its value, decoded. A query string on its own (a=1&b=2) shows its parameters.

Query strings

A + is read as a space, as in query strings and forms (a + itself is written %2B). Characters beyond ASCII are decoded as UTF-8.

Errors explained

A % not followed by two hexadecimal digits, or bytes that are not valid UTF-8, are pointed out with their position.

Private: nothing is uploaded

Formatting, checking and comparing all happen in your browser. Your documents are saved in the browser's own storage on this computer, not on a server, so they never leave your device.

With your permission, we count anonymous visits (which pages and tools are used), never what you type. See Privacy.

Questions

What is URL encoding?

Writing characters that are not allowed in a URL, or that mean something there, as % and two hexadecimal digits: a space becomes %20.

How do I see the parameters of a URL?

Paste the URL: below it, each parameter and its value are listed, decoded.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

Your documents aren't: everything runs in your browser, and they are saved on your computer, in the browser's storage for this site. With your permission we count anonymous visits, never their content.
