Pie chart maker

Make a pie chart by typing a label and a value per slice. The slices are worked out as percentages and drawn as you type, each with its share and a legend beside the pie. It opens with where a website's visitors come from.

Type the slices

Double-click the chart to edit it beside a live preview. It starts with "pie", then a line per slice:

  • "Search" : 4620
  • "Direct" : 2710
  • title Where visitors come from puts a title above it
  • showData after "pie" adds each value to the legend

Values can be counts, amounts or percentages: they are added up and each slice gets its share of the whole, so they need not total 100.

Readable at a glance

Slices start at the top and go clockwise in the order you list them, so put the biggest first. Slices of 5% or more show their percentage inside; the legend gives every slice its label, share and, with showData, its value. Each slice keeps its own colour from a set that stays apart in light and dark themes.

From Mermaid, or into slides

The syntax is Mermaid's pie chart, so one from a README pastes straight in. Save the chart as PNG or SVG for a slide, a report or a document; SVG stays sharp at any size.

Questions

When is a pie chart the right choice?

When the parts make up one whole and there are only a few of them, say up to six. To compare many values, or values that change over time, a bar chart reads more easily.

Can I make a donut chart?

Not yet: the chart is a full pie. Put a white circle shape over its centre if you need the look.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Charts are drawn in your browser and saved there with your diagrams; nothing you type is sent anywhere.
