YAML to JSON converter

Paste YAML, such as a Kubernetes manifest, a Compose file or a CI config, and see it as JSON below, as you type. Each YAML document becomes a JSON value.

Anchors, aliases and merge keys

Anchors (&base) and aliases (*base) are filled in, and merge keys (<<: *base) are applied, as Compose files and CI configs expect, so the JSON holds every value in full.

Types as YAML reads them

Unquoted true, 42 and 3.14 become a boolean and numbers, null and ~ become null, and dates stay text. The YAML 1.2 rules are used, so yes and no stay text. Big integers keep every digit.

Several documents

Each document of a file with several (separated by ---) becomes a JSON value of its own, one after the other.

Copy, download or keep editing

The JSON follows your typing, and a mistake in what you paste is pointed out first, with its line and column. Copy or Download take the JSON as it is; Use as text puts it in the editor in place of what you pasted (Ctrl+Z goes back).

Private: nothing is uploaded

Formatting, checking and comparing all happen in your browser. Your documents are saved in the browser's own storage on this computer, not on a server, so they never leave your device.

How do I convert YAML to JSON?

Why is a value a string instead of a number?

It is quoted in the YAML ("42"), or written in a way YAML does not read as a number.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

Your documents aren't: everything runs in your browser, and they are saved on your computer, in the browser's storage for this site. With your permission we count anonymous visits, never their content.
